Shaker and contemporary items

Shown here are some of the Shaker / Shaker influenced items that I have made.  Workmanship is high quality with a combination of machine tool and hand tool usage.  Many of these pieces are 100% hardwood construction; some do use modern materials for cost/esthetic decisions.  All are custom pieces made to fit a specific requirement.

This is simple bedside table.  The single drawer is designed to open by pulling from the bottom (no drawer pull or handle).
The top features a Corian insert for appearance and durability.  A matching Corian shelf adds to the table usefulness.
Construction is mortise and tenon with hand cut dovetails in the drawer.
Wood is maple with a lacquer finish.

This six drawer chest is mostly Shaker in design.  All dovetails are hand cut.  Side panels are flat with a thumbnail on the frame edges at the panels.
The back is ship lap construction.  Drawers are traditional construction with solid wood bottoms.
The base features hand cut mitered dovetails and a large thumbnail on the top edge.
The top cove  and slightly undercut (tapered) top tend to make the top appear thinner and lighter.

A sofa table in Shaker style.  Two hand cut dovetailed drawers with thumbnail edges, and small edge bead on bottom of stretcher rails.
A large thumbnail on edge of top and tapered legs (inside sides only) finish off the simple style.

Shaker styled corner unit and bookcase.  Maple with shellac finish.  All solid maple with ship lapped backs and adjustable shelves.
