This blanket chest was built to be placed at the foot of Shaker bed.  It is built to look like an antique using a mix of hand and power tools.  Tool marks are left on the interior surfaces on purpose (as would have been done on a real antique).  The chest is made from White Ash with a finish color of Nutmeg and top coated with shellac and wax.  One  dovetailed till is included and sized at one half of the inside width.  The chest has four small button feet and sits on a stand when not being moved about.  All exterior surfaces feature raised panels (including the bottom panel).  The largest challenge was building the coopered lid.  Hardware was selected appropriate for a "traveling" trunk of the period.  Chest construction is mortise and tenon.  Everyting is held together with hide glue.
